Recion selected as reactor supplier for Steady Energy’s SMR nuclear heat pilot

Recion has been selected as reactor supplier and technology partner for Steady Energy’s LDR-e small modular reactor (SMR) pilot facility, a project aimed at demonstrating nuclear heat production for industrial applications.
The agreement positions Recion at the core of one of Europe’s most advanced SMR-based heat projects. As part of the collaboration, Recion will deliver the complete reactor module, one of the most critical components of the plant, and will also contribute to reactor design for Steady Energy’s future projects beyond the pilot phase.
The partnership strengthens Steady Energy’s EU-based supply chain and supports security of supply. While several European material suppliers and manufacturing partners are involved in the pilot reactor, Recion will assume full responsibility for reactor delivery. Reactor manufacturing is scheduled to begin in spring 2026.

– This marks the first major milestone in the construction of our pilot plant. Recion has a long history in Finnish nuclear energy and represents the very best of domestic expertise, says Hannes Haapalahti, Chief Technology Officer at Steady Energy.

– Being selected as reactor supplier for the LDR-e pilot validates both our technology and our organization. We are proud to contribute our nuclear expertise to a project that could significantly impact how low-carbon industrial heat is produced in Europe, says Andreas Berglund, CEO of Recion.

Recion is backed by long-term owner Mimir, which supports the company’s development as a European provider of advanced reactor solutions for the energy transition.
