Alan Hollis, who became Chief Executive Officer of Osprey on 1 October, will lead the newly independent advanced materials company into its next phase of development. His initial priorities are to identify opportunities for improvement and translate Osprey’s technical strengths into growth.
Hollis brings more than 30 years of industrial leadership experience in advanced materials, aerospace and defence, including CEO roles in private equity owned and listed companies. He has also led businesses through the transition from corporate division to independent company – experience directly relevant to Osprey following its acquisition from Sandvik by Swedish investment company Mimir.
“Osprey has strong technical capabilities, and our opportunity is to turn those strengths into growth by understanding what customers value most,” said Alan Hollis, Chief Executive Officer, Osprey. “My first priority is to listen to our people and customers, understand where we can improve and act where the opportunities are clear. As an independent company, we can set our own priorities and focus our efforts where we can make the greatest difference.”

“Alan’s appointment is a strategic step in strengthening Osprey’s leadership team as we enter the next phase of the business,” said Mats Gunnarsson, Chairman of the Board, Osprey. “His extensive industrial experience and track record of leading businesses through the transition to independence provide a strong foundation for taking Osprey forward.”
Osprey supplies gas atomised metal powders, controlled expansion alloys and engineered materials from its production sites in Neath, Wales and Sandviken, Sweden. Its portfolio includes more than 2,000 powder grades, supported by more than 50 years of metallurgical expertise.
Under Hollis’s leadership and Mimir’s ownership, the company will focus on developing advanced materials for demanding engineering applications, investing in capacity, alloy development and long-term customer partnerships.
Andrew Coleman continues to play an important role within Osprey, reporting to the CEO and providing valuable continuity, customer knowledge and technical expertise as we move forward under the new ownership structure.
Osprey is an independent advanced materials company with extensive expertise in metallurgy, gas atomisation and engineered materials, and serves customers across aerospace, space, defence, medical, dental, energy, automotive and advanced manufacturing.
Mimir specialises in acquiring divisions and business areas from larger groups and supporting their growth through strategic investment in high-technology businesses. Previous investments include the defence-tech company Euroatlas GmbH and the fintech company Everspring.
